It would be ideal if you gave great thought to how your restaurant would be laid out and designed while you were building it. Selecting the right table size and layout may impact your restaurant’s capacity, which in turn can affect your sales.
Restaurant owners who are just starting to think about arranging their spaces will likely have many questions. At Restaurant Furniture.Net, we are dedicated to helping restaurant owners with any questions they may have about the best seating arrangement for their space.
Whether the project is being performed by the most experienced restaurant design business or an ambitious restaurant owner, there are always potential problems that could cause delays in construction and the grand opening. Regardless of the size or style of the restaurant you are opening, having sturdy, high-quality restaurant tables is crucial to your guests’ dining experience. You could save a lot of problems later on if you make the right early judgments about the kinds and numbers of tables for your restaurant’s floor design. The amount of table space you require will ultimately depend on your menu, the atmosphere you want to create, and how you plan to serve your guests.
Each seat must have at least 24″ of width available. To make it easier for customers to enter and exit and to sit comfortably, there should be adequate room between the chairs. The type of business you run is another important consideration when choosing the tables. For full-course dinners, a 30″ x 30″ table can easily accommodate just two people. In contrast, four people may be seated at the same table in a café or ice cream shop.
A 12-foot table is recommended for sitting in cafeterias or restaurants. Ten square tables are suitable for a banquet hall, institution, or closed-seating area. There should be eighteen inches between the back of the chair and the person seated at the edge of the table.
FORM OF A TABLE
Hospitality tables come in many shapes and sizes. The number of covers required for each table and the table’s intended use determine the optimal table size. Good eating takes up the most area to accommodate side plates and additional tableware and silverware, while drinking takes up less space than fast meals.
Square tables are the most popular option, as they can be used alone (typically for two people) or combined for larger gatherings (our bestseller size is 700mm x 700mm). Where chairs can be ‘ squeezed’ around round tables as needed, they provide even more flexibility in cafe-like environments. Many restaurants would often request a larger circular top to fill a corner or to break up the pattern’s monotony. Table bases are also important! Please read our blog post about table bases to learn how they impact the number of dining spaces your restaurant has.
THE NUMBER OF COVERS THAT A RESTAURANT CAN ACCOMODATE
To calculate how many covers a restaurant can accommodate, the Metric Handbook suggests that each diner (person) requires an area of 1 to 2 square meters (with a minimum width of 580mm).
‘Fine-dining’ places with widely spaced tables would be at the high end of this scale, while bustling restaurants with small square tables may be at the lower end. Even if they are arranged at 45° angles, small tables can be used to accommodate more covers.
Pro Tip: When planning the space, keep in mind that a restaurant chair is approximately 450 millimeters away from a table. Leave an extra 450mm behind the backs of seats to prevent serving staff from bumping into clients. Additionally, be mindful of the potential strain on the chair’s back legs.
